About the Author

JR RIversJR Rivers is the co-founder and CTO of Cumulus Networks where he is deeply involved in the company, product, and technology direction. He's been involved with networking since Ethernet only ran on coaxial cables and worked on some of the most foundational networking products of their time, from early Network Interface Cards at 3Com through switching and routing products at Cisco. JR's early involvement in home-grown networking at Google and as the VP of System Architecture for Cisco's Unified Computing System both helped fine tune his perspective on networking for the modern data center.

About the webinar

It was an interesting topic, but was a very small corner of the broad topic that the title had suggested.

I am familiar with most of the topics that were presented but still, it was very nice webinar. JR presented information very clearly and I learned a new command I was not aware of (tcpprobe). Thanks!

VEry precise information.

I learned about the new methods of buffer management that reduce the memory overhead. Very cool.
It was good to hear that the field experience is the same as what the researchers are saying - smaller buffers are better than bigger buffers.

In the spirit of networking, if I was to assign a mean opinion score to the technical quality, not so good. I had several complete audio drop outs. I also heard some partial impairments where it sounded like Rivers was under water. In all cases the stream was able to recover.

The slides posted before the webinar were pretty much useless. I checked with a few different viewers. Maybe that's been fixed; I haven't checked yet. What appeared in the webinar is definitely not what was posted ahead of the show.

Great webinar! Key ingredients included someone with a lot of background in a very current and challenging area providing good high level perspective on these issues with practical, how-to advice.
